Obituary of Eugene Thomas Wallace

Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eugene Thomas Wallace, 76, died on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Eugene was born and raised in Jersey City before moving to Lyndhurst in 1985 to raise his family.  Mr. Wallace was a dedicated school social worker for over 30 years in Jersey City with County Prep High School of the Hudson County Schools of Technology.  His impact, however, went far beyond his role as a social worker.  He served as the dean of students, was an integral part of the Child Study Team that provided guidance for special education students, and coached the girls' tennis team.  Eugene's ability to connect with students, staff, and families made him a beloved figure in the school community, where he will be remembered for his unwavering support and encouragement.

Growing up, Eugene spent summers down the shore with his siblings.  He found joy in fishing in his younger years. Eugene started every day with a newspaper, was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, and thanks to his nephew Billy, developed an interest in NASCAR.  Above all else, he was a devoted family man.  He was committed to raising his three children, often traveling for family vacations to provide unforgettable childhood memories for them.  Eugene always had a way to make people laugh and his wonderful sense of humor will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Regina Wallace (nee Machno), by their loving children, Eugene Michael Wallace and his wife, Esther, Stephanie Saba and her husband, Mike, and Ian Wallace and his girlfriend, Kahiya, by his cherished grandchildren, Jude Thomas Wallace and Michael Aidan Saba, by his dear brother and sister, Thomas Wallace and his wife, Mary Pat and Carol Eager and her husband, Bill, and by many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Margaret (nee Loughran) Wallace and by his brother, James Wallace.
