Obituary of Carol A. Tunnell

Carol A. Tunnell (nee Kohl), 85, of Hopatcong, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.  Mrs. Tunnell was born and raised in Jersey City.  Carol met her beloved husband, the late Russell Tunnell in high school at the YMCA and they remained in Jersey City to raise a family of their own.  She moved to Lyndhurst in 2001 before moving to Succasunna in 2008.   Carol was a resident of Hopatcong for the past 4 years.  She worked as a teacher's aide at Mount Carmel School in Jersey City in addition to being a loving homemaker for her family, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.  She selflessly volunteered her time as Cub Master with Troop 481 of Jersey City and loved her New York Yankees.

Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Russell C. Tunnell in 2014, by their dear son, Robert J. Tunnell in 1990, and by her brother, Robert Kohl.  She is survived by her loving children, Russell Tunnell and his wife, Judy, Richard Tunnell and his wife, Robyn, Stephen Tunnell and his wife, Maureen, and Christine Coons and her husband, Chester, by her cherished grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Kayci, Christopher, Laura, Samantha, Sarah and her husband, Christopher, Rebecca, Dylan, Kaylee, Jessica, Matthew, the late Ryan, and Ethan, and by her great grandchild, Jayden.  She is also survived by her dear sister and brothers, Susan Benson, Dennis Kohl and James Kohl.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 4 - 8 PM.  All will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 AM.  A funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM.  Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Goryeb Children's Hospital, PIC Unit, 100 Madison Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960 or Patriots Path Council, Inc., 1 Saddle Road, Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.  You may express your condolences to Carol's family by using our tribute wall.
