Philip Henry Lembo, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Lyndhurst, Philip was born in Hoboken to Italian immigrant parents who relocated “down the hook” in Lyndhurst when he was a child. Philip enlisted in the armed forces in his senior year of high school and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 - 1946. When he returned, he met his wife to be, Helen Leyden on the dance floor at the “Coop” and they married in 1953, settling “up the hill” in Lyndhurst and began their life together. Philip, a printer by trade, started Lembo Printing Company, out of the building next door to home in the early 50’s and grew his business over the years, which still exists today. Witnessed by the comments received by his family, Philip was a well-liked, hard-working family man with a great sense of humor. He was known as “Verp” to many of his friends and family and could “cut a rug” on the dance floor. He also enjoyed a good golf game with his buddies. His presence in all his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives will be missed dearly. “Rest easy Poppy.”
Philip was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Helen (nee Leyden) Lembo in 2022. He is survived by his loving children, Virginia (Ginny) Lembo, Maryann Durante, Roseanne Pezzolla (Frank), Maureen Lembo, Philip Lembo (Lee Ann) and John Lembo. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Frank and Philip Pezzolla, Matthew Durante, Chris, Samantha & Jason Lembo, Alana Lembo, Anthony, John & Gianna Lembo, and his two great-grandchildren, Finn Pezzolla and Kennedy Lembo. We would like to express our gratitude to his caretaker and friend Maria who enhanced his quality of life, especially after he lost his wife. Also, Susana who stepped in to help us through the end stages of his life and all of the VHS staff.
