Richard A. Calabro, 79, died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Mr. Calabro was born and raised in Newark, lived in Harrison and Kearny, and was a resident of Lyndhurst for over 50 years. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 - 1971. He worked for Best Fuel Oil in Harrison for 22 years and then for Mitchell Supreme Oil Service in Orange for 16 years, retiring in 2006. Richard was heavily involved in many different Naval associations. He was on the Board of Trustees for the Submarine Memorial Association, USS Ling SS-297 (Hackensack, NJ), Life Member of the following associations: Tin Can Sailors (Somerset, MA), Naval Enlisted Reserve Association (Lynchburg, VA), Submarine Force Library and Museum (Groton, CT), and Surface Naval Association (Alexandria, VA), and a member of the Garden State Mustang Club (Whippany, NJ).
Richard was predeceased by his devoted parents, Matthew W. and Marianne (nee Marrazzo) Calabro, by his beloved wife, Mary Jane Calabro (2005), and by his dear brother, Matthew S. Calabro (2019). He is survived by his loving niece, nephew, cousins, family, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 6 - 8 PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Friday, August 1 at 9 AM, then to Mount Carmel Church, Lyndhurst where at 10 AM a funeral mass will be offered. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
