Robert Jay Alonso, 27, more affectionately known as “Rob,” “Uncle Rob,” “Robertico,” “Tiko” and his gamertag “BobbyB,” passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Rob was born in Belleville and grew up in Lincoln Park. He was a resident of Boonton for the past 8 years, where he frequently enjoyed his favorite Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwiches. In grade school, Rob was a popular, respected kid who loved to play soccer and ping pong. He played the saxophone, and excelled in both science and math. This carried over into his adolescence and adulthood. He read physics and calculus books in his free time, and took a strong, autodidactic interest in theoretical physics. He loved all things outdoors and nature related, especially treasuring the time he would spend kayaking on the water at Split Rock. Rob’s love for video games carried him as an outlet his entire life. He fostered many friendships over games, and cherished the collection he built and shared over the years. He adored animals; he had veterinary aspirations, and true to character, was deeply inspired by the unconditional love that dogs offer all while asking very little in return.
Rob is survived by his loving mother, Elva Diaz - Cobo and her husband Paul, and by his loving father, Robert Alonso. He is survived by his cherished siblings: Raquel Jordan and her husband Rondell, Alexandra Bence and her husband Steve, Maxine Ellis and her husband Roy, and his twin brother and built-in best friend, Richard Alonso. He’s survived by his aunts, Aiysha Esquivel-Liu and Maalikat Esquivel, by many nieces, nephews and cousins, by his girlfriend and love, Victoria Fonseca, and his favorite furry friend, Athena.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 3 - 7 PM. Cremation is private.
