Kathleen Susanne Johnson (née Maarleveld), 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 22, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Jersey City and raised in Hoboken, Kathleen later made Lyndhurst her lifelong home. She met and married the love of her life, Frank A. Johnson, and together they settled on Rutherford Avenue, where they built a beautiful life centered around family.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Kathleen’s greatest joy was caring for her husband Frank and their daughters, Suzanne and Dawn.  Her compassion extended beyond her family to the animal world—a lifelong passion that shaped her professional life. Kathleen served for many years as the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Bergen County. Earlier in her career, she founded Lost Pet Inc., operating the lost pet hotline right from her living room with the help of her daughters.

Kathleen had a profound love and respect for animals, valuing the unconditional love they gave so freely. She was a tireless advocate for their well-being and found great fulfillment in helping reunite lost pets with their families, finding homes for strays, raising injured wildlife, and providing medical attention and guidance whenever needed.

Her radiant smile, nurturing spirit, and unwavering devotion to her daughters, grandchildren, and “four-legged children” will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Kathleen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Frank A. Johnson, in December 2018. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Suzanne and Dawn, and her adored grandchildren, Thane, Tristen, and Devon.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. All are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a cryptside service at Holy Cross Mausoleum at 11:00 AM.
