It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carmela Costantini (née Ciaramella), who died peacefully in Lyndhurst on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was 93.
Born on June 2, 1932, in San Marco dei Cavoti, Italy, where she met her husband Domenico Costantini. In 1971, they immigrated to the United States with their two children, Anna and Antonio. After settling in Jersey City, the family moved to Lyndhurst in 1977, where Carmela made her home for the rest of her life.
A talented seamstress, Carmela worked for many years, eventually retiring from Country Girl Fashion in Lyndhurst. Her greatest pride was her family. She was a loving mother to Anna Pontoriero and Antonio Costantini, and a devoted mother-in-law to Francesco Pontoriero and Vincenza Costantini. Her grandchildren, Frank Pontoriero, Lisa Stisi and her husband Dominick, Anthony, and Michael Costantini, were the light of her life. She was a doting great-grandmother to Lilianna and Luca Stisi, who brought her immense joy.
Carmela was known for her many passions, including cooking, sewing and knitting, but she found true happiness in her garden. She spent countless hours tending to her flowers. Her love for her family and her joy in life will be deeply missed.
Carmela is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Domenico. She is survived by her daughter Anna (Francesco) Pontoriero, her son Antonio (Vincenza) Costantini, her grandchildren Frank Pontoriero, Lisa (Dominick) Stisi, Anthony Costantini, and Michael Costantini, her great-grandchildren Lilianna and Luca Stisi, and her nephew John Tremonte, his wife Caroline, and her great-niece Cynthia.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 4 PM – 8 PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 9 AM, before proceeding to Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst, where a funeral mass will be offered at 10 AM.
