Nicholas A. Garofolo, 85, died on Monday, October 20, 2025. Mr. Garofolo was born in Jersey City, NJ and has been a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst, in the 3rd generation Garofolo home in “the hook” section of town. Nick served our country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War (1962-1965), followed by the Reserves until 1968. He worked as a repair technician for NCR Cash Systems of Lyndhurst, and then as a custodian for the Lyndhurst Board of Education, mainly at Franklin and Roosevelt schools, where he truly enjoyed his job and being among the youth of Lyndhurst. Along with his wife Angela, they ran Nicky’s Novelties through the carnival season, every April through October, enjoying the sense of community and culture that feasts and town carnivals brought the local neighborhoods. Nick was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where he was an usher at mass and a member of the Holy Name Society. A dedicated member of the Lyndhurst Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree Knight as well as past Grand Knight, past District Deputy, in addition to being the financial secretary for the organization, and a member of the Elks BPOE #1505 and American Legion, all of Lyndhurst. Nick truly dedicated his life to God, country and family and his legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving children, Nicholas R. Garofolo & his wife Joanne, Antoinette “Toni” McGeehan & her husband, Timothy, and Ralph Garofolo & his wife, Loren and Joseph Candido, by his cherished grandchildren, Haley, Nicholas, Samantha, Zachary, Taylor and Kevin, by his loving nieces and nephews and many lifetime friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc, 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4 PM- 8 PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 9 AM, then to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where at 10AM a funeral Mass will be offered. Cremation is private.
