Joseph A. Burke, 61, died suddenly on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Joseph was born in Jersey City and lived his entire life in Lyndhurst. He was a Master Plumber and a very proud union member of the Operating Engineers Local 94, of New York City. Joseph enjoyed his family and friends and always had a smile to share with you. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Joseph T. Burke and Jean Burke (nee Coscia) and by his brother-in-law, Brian Cassidy. Joseph is survived by his beloved bride of 4 years, Shannon (nee Cassidy) and their beloved dog Gordy, by his brother John Burke and sister-in-law Joana Burke (nee Bartlett), his sister Jean Bradley, his niece and nephew, Jamie Rose DeMattio and Joseph Bradley. He is also survived by his father-in-law Thomas Cassidy, his mother-in-law Joan Cassidy, his sister-in-law Joanne Cassidy, his brother-in-law Michael Cassidy and by his “Weasel Family” that share over 36 years of friendship together as well as many cherished cousins.
Joe was an avid sports fan always supporting the New York Mets and Giants the way only a true fan can. He also loved Notre Dame football and Duke basketball and could always be found watching his favorite teams. Joe loved gardening and spending time outdoors, whether it was cultivating the perfect tomato or walking in the park with his wife and dog, he adored nature and being immersed in it. Most of all Joe loved his family and friends, inviting all into his home for one of his amazing home cooked meals or to enjoy his BBQ skills, love, laughter and friendship.
Joe will be remembered for his huge heart, his wisdom and ability to be a good listener as well as the fact that he was someone you could always depend on. His legacy will live on through all the people he touched in his short time in this world.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4 PM – 8 PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 9 AM. A family directed funeral service will begin at 10 AM. Interment to follow, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
