With a heavy heart, Vincent G. Bellizzi, 96 of East Rutherford, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. His death comes as a profound loss, as he was the center of his family's world. Vincent was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. He enlisted in the Marines during WWII and proudly served his country from 1946-1948. Vincent was a part of the China Restitution and was stationed in China and the Philippines. He saw active combat and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for his service on the battlefield during his term of service. Vincent believed that “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”.
After the war, Vincent returned to Jersey City and joined BAC Local #4 and became a brick layer, with his career spanning over 50 years. He met and married his cherished wife, Joan Fuchs, and in 1957 they moved to East Rutherford. He was loved and celebrated as the oldest neighbor on the block and neighbors considered him family and the feeling was mutual. He was proud to be a part of the East Rutherford community for 69 years and in the 70’s campaigned to become mayor. His life, down to his wardrobe, reflected his dedication to his country, the United States Marine Corp, and his family. Vincent cared immensely for those around him, well beyond his family, yet his wife, his children and grandchildren, were the most he treasured. Vincent's greatest joy was being a grandfather. His grandchildren have over 30 years of memories with their grandfather. Decades of wildwood vacations, countless birthday parties, holidays, the list is endless. Vincent was also a devoted father, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. Cooking and gardening were his favorite passions, and he took pride in his garden every summer.
Vincent was a proud member of the AMVETS of Lynthurst and the Marine Corp League. He thoroughly enjoyed attending meetings, club events, and parties. In 2022, he was honored as the Grand Marshall in the Memorial Day Parade.
“Jesus, I surrender myself to you…take care of everything” this was Vincent’s daily prayer. We find peace and comfort in knowing that he has found his rest in the arms of Jesus and his family that has gone before him. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan (nee Fuchs). Vincent is survived by his loving children, Marianne Messineo & her husband, Joseph, Vincent and Mark Bellizzi, his dear grandchildren, Marina Ingram & her husband, James and Nicholas Messineo and a long list of Marine Corp brothers and fellow veterans.
