Ernest L. Brodie Obituary
Ernest L. Brodie, 78, of Lyndhurst, died on Friday, March 20, 2026. Ernie was born and raised in Newark and grew up in the Ironbound Section. He lived in Belleville for 20 years and was a resident of Lyndhurst for the past 30 years. Ernie proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 - 1968. After his honorable discharge, he entered the workforce. His love of cars, especially his El Camino, inspired him to become a mechanic, working for Broad Street Pontiac in Newark for 3 years. He then went on to work for First Republic in East Newark for 37 years where he was the head of maintenance, overseeing construction projects and making sure the building and equipment were running safely and efficiently. Outside of work, Ernie loved spending time at his happy place, down the shore where he would feed the birds and squirrels.
Ernie is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ruth A. Brodie (nee Frahm) and by their loving children, Ernest J. Brodie and John M. Brodie and his wife, Dawn. "Pop," as he was affectionately known, will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren, Ernest R., Brianna, and Cristina and by his great grandchild, Cam. He is also survived by his dear sister, Rita Burke and by his cousins, Joey Kovacs and Sharon Caruso.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 9:30 - 11:30 AM. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield. Please omit flowers and instead make a donation to a charity of your choice.
