Peter J. Nazare, the eldest son of Italian immigrants who settled in Lyndhurst in the early 1890's, began providing services to the local community, out of his home on Pennsylvania Avenue.  As the customs of funerals changed and the need for services outside one's home became the norm, Peter, purchased a single family home on the corner of Ridge Road and Fern Avenue to which he began Nazare Memorial Home, Incorporated. He and his wife, Olga, a schoolteacher, lived across the street to be close to the funeral home.  Pete was dedicated to the funeral industry and was one of the original members of the New Jersey Funeral Directors Association.  In 1944, Pete died suddenly while in attendance of the funeral directors convention in Atlantic City.

At that time, Peter's only brother, Joseph J. Nazare took over the helm.  "Bib'' to many, Mr. Nazare owned, operated and lived above the funeral home with his wife, Louise and their children, Joseph M.,  Robert J. and Lorraine.  His oldest son, Joseph, worked in and around the funeral home from the age of 14.  He became a licensed funeral director in 1965 and continued in the family line of service with his dad, until his father's death in 1976.

Robert J. Nazare became licensed in 1972 and worked alongside his brother, Joseph until his untimely death in 2000. That same year, Joe's daughter, Karen, graduated from American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, NYC and was licensed in 2001.  Just shy of 20 years, Karen has worked with her dad to uphold and continue now three generations, their legacy of compassion and care that the Nazare family has brought to the people of Lyndhurst and its surrounding neighbors.
