Russo, Mark lifelong resident of Kearny on Sunday, February 11, 2007; Beloved husband of the late Lucille M. (nee Coppola) Russo; Loving father of Marcelle M. Russo, Carolyn Russo-Azer, & her husband, Medhat, and Lucille Russo; Grandfather of David Peselli, Jr., Christopher R. Peselli, Sarah Azer, Monica Azer, and Rachel Hamilton; Brother of the late Antoinette, Edith, Viola, Robert and Armond. He was born in and has been a lifelong resident of Kearny; Died Sunday February 11, 2007 at his residence, Kearny. He was the Past Vice Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Hearts, Kearny Chapter, the only Congressional Charted Veterans organization exclusively for combat wounded veterans. In 1999, he was honored as Grand Marshall of the Kearny Memorial Day Parade. Mr. Russo played a major role in the preparation to construct the Military Order of the Purple Hearts Monument on Kearny Avenue, next to the Town Hall. He assisted in many occasions for various fund raising events and projects for this organization. He was an Army WWII Veteran serving 1942-45. His WWII history began with The Invasion of Normandy on �D� Day, where he was wounded twice. After his recuperation, he reentered combat and was seriously wounded a third time in The Battle of the Bulge, in Ardennes, where he received 3 Bronze Stars. Mr. Russo was past Adjutant and Treasure for The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 25 West Hudson South Bergen. He was elected to the Board of Trustees American Legion Post 99, Kearny and served on the committee to save the Battleship New Jersey. He was a recipient of the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. He was a member of the VFW of Kearny. He worked as an Operating Engineer for Finest Foods, South Kearny for 20 years and for Rutgers University for 2 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Wednesday February 14, 2007 at 9 AM then to St. Stephen�s Church, Kearny where at 10:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Interment Arlington Cemetery, Kearny. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM
