Stankiewicz, Dorothy (nee Allen), 84 of Lyndhurst NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 8th. Dorothy was born in Houghton-Lee Spring in the county of Durham, England and has been a resident of Lyndhurst since 1959. In 1945 she graduated from the Royal Hospital & Home for Incurables Putney as a nurse, and was caring for wounded soldiers during the London Blitz in World War II. After the war Dorothy immigrated to the United States, started a family, and worked as a registered nurse at the Salvation Army in Jersey City. She founded Magic Years Daycare Center in Lyndhurst where for 35 years she shaped many young lives and families. Dorothy�s whole life was focused on helping others in the community, from helping people learn English as a second language in her home, to being a 4H Leader teaching crafts and knitting, but her first passion was in helping mothers in need. Dorothy touched many lives and will be truly missed. She was the loving mother of Leo Stankiewicz and Daphne Karcich and her husband Mario, dear grandmother of Scott and Tim Karcich, and is survived by her sister Marie Collichio. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Saturday February 12, 2011 at 10AM. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Visiting hours Friday 5-9PM. . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude�s Children�s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TH 38105-1942.
