Makowski, Richard S. 81, died Sunday May 24, 2009 in the New Jersey Hospice, Wayne. Mr. Makowski was born and raised in downtown Jersey City, and graduated from Ferris High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Army and was a WWII Veteran. He married Marie Petrizzo in 1951, and moved to Lyndhurst in 1955, where he had lived for over 30 years. In 1989 he moved to East Rutherford and was a resident for the past 20 years. He was a Bergen County Sheriff�s Officer serving the county for many years before retirement. He then became a Crossing Guard and Captain for East Rutherford Board of Ed. for over 10 years. He was also a member and past Exhaulted Ruler of the BPO Elks Lodge #1505, of Lyndhurst. Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife Marie C. (nee Petrizzo) 8/81. He is survived by his loving children, Mary Sakin and her husband Rory of East Hanover, and Richard Jr. of Rochester, NY., his dear grandchildren, Jillian and Jonathan Sakin and his longtime companion, Mary Ann Dugan of Lyndhurst. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Thursday May 28, 2009 at 9AM then to St. Michael�s Church, Lyndhurst where at 10AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Entombment Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-9PM. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard�s memory to a wildlife organization of choice.
