Lopardo, Rose N. (nee Amatucci) 96, died on Monday July 13, 2009. Rose Lopardo was born Rosa Nevina Amatucci on January, 12 1913, in her mothers bed on Wayne Street in Jersey City. When she graduated No. 9 Grammar School in Jersey City, her father, who refused to let her become a nun sent her to work at Manhattan Laundry, where she folded clothes for 10 years, a few of which were spent alongside my Grandfather, James Lopardo, who was a presser. She often lamented that her younger sisters, who got to stay home with her mother, were much better cooks than she. I was born to work, she would tell you. First, taking care of her six younger siblings. Then she worked at Manhattan Laundry for ten years. Then she and her sister Mildred worked at Made Rite Baby Toggs while raising two children. In between she was a cleaning lady at various apartment buildings they lived in. Then she went to Hudson Pants Co., in Jersey City, where she installed zippers in pant flys for 40 years. When she retired at age 72 in 1985 she had reached the earning wage of $5.25 an hour. She volunteered for the Daughters of Mary, the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, the Our Lady of Victories Rosary Society, the Saint Aedans Senior Club, and was a lifetime promoter of the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal. And in between all this work, she did find time to raise a family. Rose is predeceased by her husband James (11/90). She is survived by her loving children Vincent Lopardo and his wife Mary Ann of Bridgewater, and Rosemarie Giglio and her husband Anthony of Lyndhurst, her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and her brother Gabrielle Amatucci. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Wednesday July 15, 2009 at 8:30AM then to Our Lady Mount Carmel Church, Lyndhurst where at 9:30am A Funeral Mass will be offered.
