Obituary of Frederick R. Rathjen

Rathjen, Frederick R., 84, of Kearny, died Tuesday October 6, 2009. Mr. Rathjen was born in Newark, lived most of his life in Kearny, and the past 2 years in the VA Care Center of Lyons. He was an Army Sergeant WW II Veteran serving in the 88th Infantry and the 349th Infantry (1943-1946). He worked as a Foreman, for RCA, Harrison for 45 years before retiring in 1988. Frederick was a member of DAV Chapter 22 of Belleville/Nutley. Mr. Rathjen is predeceased by his son the late Robert F. "Rick" Rathjen (2006) and his sister Meta Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Arlene (nee Reissner) Rathjen of Kearny, his loving daughter, Barbara Serratella and her husband James of Belleville, Daughter-in-law, Carole Rathjen of Lyndhurst, dear granddaughter, Candice Serratella, Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc. 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Friday October 9, 2009 at 8PM. Cremation private. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9PM.
