Hello to all my family and friends,
On behalf of my sister Concetta, myself and our families ,I want everyone here to know that we thank you for being here with us at this time of sadness and grief that we are experiencing at this time. Your support means so very much to us. God bless all of you.
I just wanted to express a few thoughts about our mom. Mom, Josephine, or aunt Joe as some people referred to her was a kind, cheerful, thoughtful person who was passionate about my sister, myself, Grace, Darwin Valerie, Jennifer, Louie, Joseph and our families. Mom loved and was very thankful to her extended family: Aunt Patricia, Uncle Ernie, Aunt Emily, and Kathleen who did so much for her. She was very grateful for their help, love and support. Mom loved everyone and If I did not mention you by name please excuse me. She loved everyone who she encountered in her life.
Our mom sacrificed herself for the needs of her family. Mom was a giver, not a taker. Mom never complained or insisted on being a burden to anyone. Mom prayed the rosary everyday for our families that we may have good health, prosperity and the best of lives for all of us. Mom wanted all of us to be happy, healthy and to always love each other! For her grandchildren, she prayed that they would be successful and have good lives. Mom wanted her nieces and nephews to always love and respect each other.
Our mom was an enduring presence in our lives. She loved everyone, she guided and shaped our families to love each other and made us the people we are today. What can I say? She was the best mother any child or grandchild could have.
My sister and Darwin made my mom so very happy when she accompanied them to the casinos in Atlantic City, Monticello, the Poconos and various trips and vacations. She enjoyed day trips to Lancaster, PA., Guisepie's and just spending time with the family.
Mom enjoyed having Holidays surounded by the family. She enjoyed preparing many deliscious dinners and having everyone at her home. Everyone enjoyed and appreciated the Christmas Eve bash at her house.
I spent time with mom going to breakfast, (Her favorite place for breakfast was at Burger King) However she always wanted to cook me scrambled eggs and her home made coffee. I would insist that we would go out for breakfast and so we did on so many occasions. Our daily activities usually included visiting my dad at the cemetery, and she enjoyed shopping at Corrodo's, Aldi's, Wallmart and Costco. Mom also enjoyed our visits to the monastery in Clifton and wherever I would take her. Our time together was simple and relaxed. In the warmer months we would take a walk in the park and enjoy the water fountain. We would talk and enjoy our time together. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Mom was easy to talk to and she always listened. She would share her words of wisdom and advice which I welcomed. Mom said what was on her mind and respected my opinions.
She would say to me, “do what you want!”
Mom had a few expressions that she would say like, “What are you nuts! Are you kidding me? And God willing” Her words were always sincere and never condescending. Mom never said hurtful things to or about anyone. I will remember those phrases and her words for as long as I live!
Finally, Our mom was our best friend. She taught Concetta and me everything from how to tie our shoes to the importance of faith, family, moral values and personal responsibility. Mom was a friend to everyone and she was our mentor and our champion. She gave us courage and confidence. Our mom proved the enduring effect one person can have on another. I know that she has touched everyone here today in one way or another, so if you could all remember her in your prayers, that would mean so much to me, and the Lombardi and Sciolaro families.
Every day with our mom was the BEST day ever. We were truly blessed to have had her for 94 years. What a true blessing!
