ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE CARRINO FAMILY I HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF MADELINE. I DID GET TO VISIT WITH HER AT CHESTNUT HILL NURSING HOME AND WE SHARED A FEW TALKATIVE HOURS TOGETHER. AS WE SPOKE SHE REMINISCED AND FONDLY RECALLED THE TIMES SPENT AT OUR HOUSE ON PENNSYLVANIA AVE (“DOWN THE HILL). SHE RECALLED HOW SHE ENJOYED ALL THE NOISE AND ACTIVITY. SHE SAID “THOSE WERE HAPPY TIMES SPENT WITH EVERYONE.”
SHE WAS A VERY GOOD AND CLOSE FRIEND TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, ESPECIALLY MY SISTERS ANNE AND DOLLY. SHE WASN’T JUST A FRIEND, SHE WAS AN EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBER. AS YOUNG GIRLS MY SISTERS AND MADELINE GREW UP TOGETHER AND REMAINED GOOD FRIENDS THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES.
I HAVE MANY OLD FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS THAT WERE TAKEN OVER THE YEARS, THOSE PHOTOS SERVE AS A HISTORY OF THE CLOSE RELATIONSHIP OUR FAMILY SHARED WITH MADELINE. SHE WAS YOUNG AND ALWAYS SO VERY ATTRACTIVE!
I WAS YOUNGER THAN THE REST, BUT IT WAS ALSO MY GOOD FORTUNE TO BE IN HER COMPANY MANY TIMES. SHE WAS OUTGOING AND FUN TO BE WITH AND HAD A VERY DISTINCT UPBEAT PLEASANT VOICE. SHE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF KNOWING HER AND CALLING HER FRIEND.
MADELINE WAS MY SPONSOR FOR CONFIRMATION AND I HAVE A VERY SPECIAL PHOTOGRAPH OF THE TWO US TAKEN THAT DAY IN 1954 AT THE SEMROW STUDIO. I’VE KEPT THE BEAUTIFUL WRISTWATCH SHE GAVE ME AS IT REMINDS ME OF HER.
MADELINE I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU WITH LOVE, LUCILLE
MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN GOD’S PEACE.

Dear Cousin Madeline, The most treasured heirlooms are the sweet memories of family. We have many fond memories of growing with Madeline "on the corner". Madeline was a a dear "almost sister" to my Father, Joseph and Uncle, Connie. Madeline was a bridesmaid in my parent's wedding party in 1957 and continued to be a good friend to my Mother, Ann throughout the years. She was ahead of her time as a strong and independent career women who was in control of her path in life. Madeline was impeccable in how she looked and dressed. She was a world journeyer who thoroughly enjoyed her independence which made sense as she was born on July 4! She shared the same birthday with my Grandmother Angie. When Madeline & Gerry lived in PA, they had taken my cousins Kathy & Carol to the Army/Navy football game. When it was finally my turn to go, I was so excited to finally be considered old enough to go!
May the souls of all of our relatives who have gone before guide you on your final journey and may you rest in peace.

Our beloved aunt and cousin has journeyed to her eternal home. Our hearts and thoughts are full of the joy and love of family life that we shared together. Madeline was an integral part of our lives: a bridesmaid in my parent's wedding party; my Confirmation sponsor; (as Gerri, Madeline's dearest friend, was my sister Carol's Confirmation sponsor); a "near sister" to my father and uncle, and a beloved niece and "near daughter" to my grandmother and grandfather.
Madeline's life was full of love and devotion to her family: parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews. Madeline's father, Uncle Frank, passed away suddenly at a relatively young age, I know that she carried the deepest love and respect for her father in her heart always. She enjoyed the respect of her colleagues at Prudential where she spent her professional career both in Newark N.J. and Willow Grove, Pa. Madeline loved the joy and adventure of travel, particularly her beloved Italy and Western Europe, in particular. She brought a European sensibility to the home on Newark Avenue that she and Aunt Robbie shared for many years. Always beautifully groomed, my Grandmother Angie took to nicknaming her "Jacqueline" after the elegant and stylish, Jacqueline Kennedy.
Madeline loved her cherished pets beginning with "Elmer," the big black and white male kitty and ending with her last "friend", a little Lhasa Apso whose name escapes me now. She shared an unbreakable bond with each one.
There was a profound and genuine kindness and generosity about Madeline that, coupled with an engaging sense of humor, quick wit, confidence, and forthrightness, along with a little bit of "orneriness" thrown in, that made for devoted lifelong friendships, she shared a true "sisterhood" with many.
Even in her last years at Chestnut Hill Nursing Home, the spark, the joy, the sense of humor and, yes, even the orneriness, were all still evident. She and I, in particular, would have a "go at it" verbally. We each knew how to goad the other and we enjoyed every minute of it! Madeline was well known to the staff as a very kind and gentle person, never demanding and always grateful for the care shown to her. True to her nature though, there were two residents, in particular, who "got on her nerves" sometimes, as she would put it!
Madeline shone as a bright light in my life, as I'm certain you can conclude. She was a role model for me as a strong, independent, competent, fully engaged woman who I am immeasurably blessed to have graced my life and who will continue to live with me forever. May her soul be alive to the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit with whom she shared true devotion and love.
Respectfully and lovingly,
Katherine Petrillo-Klein, my mother, Dolores Petrillo and the Petrillo Family

We have very fond memories of times spent with Madeline and her best friend Jerri. They were always fun to be with.
Especially, in Florida! When I moved to Lyndhurst, Madeline was my next door neighbor. She was always very kind
and friendly. We will miss you very much...
