Uncle Gene was such a joy to be around. And while he intimidating at first glance, he was soft as a teddy bear in reality. He was always so kind, generous, thoughtful and caring to all those around him. I feel very fortunate that he took a trip down with Rona from NJ to MD early this year, pre-COVID, for my mom's 80th birthday, because I got to spend a little time with him that night. Such a tragedy that such a great guy had his life shortened by bad luck, but I know he wouldn't want that to be the focus or how we feel when we think of him. I am so glad my aunt and he met and fell in love and had such a beautiful wedding and shared the last ten plus years together; they both deserved it so.
Gene, you will be greatly missed. Thank you for all the smiles you put on people's faces. That's what I'll remember most about you -- putting smiles on people's faces.
