Obituary of Ardachas Basmadjian

Ardachas Basmadjian (Aldo), 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Of Armenian descendance, Aldo, who was born and raised in Uruguay, was first married to Cristina Moumdjian, with whom he had three children, Daniel, Gabriel, and Cristinita.  He moved to the United States in the ’60s, first settling in Boston, Massachusetts, and then in Hudson County, New Jersey. Aldo moved back to Uruguay and then to Ecuador for several years during his adulthood. For the past 20 years, he has resided in North Arlington with his wife, Ivonne Basmadjian (nee Rosales).

He was very proud of his native country, Uruguay, along with his favorite soccer team, Club Nacional de Football. His love for soccer was evident from his very early years and is an attribute that he transmitted to his children throughout the entirety of his life. Aside from being a Nacional fanatic, he also enjoyed watching Futbol Club Barcelona. Aldo’s love for sports transcended past soccer – he loved basketball, cycling, and running. Aldo also had a love for music – especially Los Olimareños, Armenian folk songs, and Ecuadorian pasillos. He had many musician friends and would spend hours listening to their music. Besides sports and music, he most importantly loved taking long drives through nature with his wife, Ivonne, and daughter Cristinita, where he could simply enjoy their company.

Aldo is survived by his beloved wife, Ivonne of 35 years, by his children, Cristina Basmadjian, Gabriel Basmadjian & his wife, Liliana, and Daniel Basmadjian & his wife, Adriana, by his stepchildren, Amorliz Arce & her husband Fernando, Christian Torres & his wife Luzyvette, and Maria Torres, by his dear grandchildren, Gabriel, Victoria, Nicole, Sophie, Melina, Angel, Alexa, Madelyn, and Christian, and finally by his sisters, Anna and Nayeli Basmadjian of Uruguay.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 9:30 am-11 am.  The funeral service begins at 11 am.  Interment to follow, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
