Obituary of Gilda Marrone
Gilda “Jill” Marrone (nee DeMatteo), 98, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family on November 13, 2022. She was born in Schenectady, NY to Consiglia and Vincenzo DeMatteo and raised in Newark, NJ before settling in Lyndhurst for seven decades. Most recently, Gilda resided in Wall Township the past 5 years.
Gilda was a beautiful, loving and grand lady who will be missed by so many. Behind her sparkling blue eyes and infectious laughter, she expressed genuine kindness and warmth to all fortunate enough to know her.
As a homemaker, Gilda loved hosting family gatherings and had great joy being with family, singing "My Pony Boy" and "Bobby Shafto" songs to children.
She was also an excellent cook. Armed with her legendary well-worn recipe book, preparing delicious gourmet meals from scratch was a labor of love for Gilda, who cherished family above all – especially on holidays and backyard BBQ. After full days running the household, Gilda utilized Old World culinary skills to prepare everyone's favorite Italian dishes and desserts to enjoy! She was an enthusiastic Yankees fan (Derek Jeter), Scrabble® and Wheel of Fortune® aficionado, enjoyed cultivating beautiful flower / vegetable gardens, playing cards and bus trips to Atlantic City.
In 1943, Gilda was married to the late Robert Marrone Sr., former owner of All Window Products Co., and shared a wonderful life together for 39 years. She is predeceased by her oldest son Robert Jr., dear brothers Carmen and Joseph; beloved sisters Mary, Madeline and Dorothy.
Gilda is survived by three children, Daniel (Rosanne), Audrey Callahan (Jack), and Joseph; grandchildren Barbara Morse (Jeff); Patrick(Xylona), Dustin and Caitlin Callahan; Gina Cassese (sons Josh, Nicholas), and great granddaughters Natalie and Emma Morse.
