Jaime M. Canal Obituary

Canal, Jaime M. 68, of Lyndhurst, died on Friday, October 13, 2023, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Jaime's spirit, will, and deep faith never wavered, where the human body could not.  We will miss him more than words can ever express. Jaime was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and came to the states in 1956. He lived in Lyndhurst for most of his life. He was a machinist working for the Bergen Record in Hackensack for many years before retiring. Jaime loved sports and dedicated his life to Hackensack Baseball and then coached both girls and boys basketball teams of Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst.  Along with his wife, Marilyn, they were always present at Sacred Heart Youth Group. They volunteered their time as chaperones for retreats, open gym nights on Wednesdays, and Sunday prayer group meetings. His large stature could be intimidating to young people, yet his quiet way and smile connected to all who came to know him.

Jaime is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marilyn (nee Wineland), by his loving children, Matthew Canal, Amanda Ford & her husband, Connor, Stephanie Miles & her husband, David, and Victoria Canal & her boyfriend, Carlos, by his precious granddaughter, his "pinky winky", Ella, by his sister, Nancy Figueroa (Michael) and his brother, Moises Canal (Diona), by two generations of nieces and nephews, and by "his brother from another mother", Al Don.
