Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Tynan
Tynan, Elizabeth M. (nee Felsman), of Lyndhurst, was peacefully called home to God on Holy Saturday, March 30, 2024, surrounded by the love and prayers of the Little Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Conception and the wonderful staff at St. Joseph’s Senior Home in Woodbridge, NJ.
When you live to 100 years old, it is probably because you deserve to live that long since God gave you the longest and best possible time to spend with those you love and EVEN BETTER – gave those you LOVE so many days, months, and years to spend with YOU! Elizabeth, Betsy, Betty, Elsie, Tynan was born on April 29, 1923, in Greenpoint, New York. She grew up with a great love and steadfast trust in God. She enjoyed school and had a compassion for singing and music. She sang opera, made records, and loved the classic movies of the 30’s and 40’s. She could literally name every star of that era. Although she was of German descent, she had a profound sense of honor and respect for the United States of America. She would always say she lived through some of the worst and greatest times of this country. Making it through the stock market crash, the great depression and living through the sad times of WWll, made her very proud to be an American. She also saw a time when TVs only had 3 channels and drive in movie theaters existed, to name a few ... the list goes on and on. Through it all she would tell you that her FAITH AND HER FAMILY were always what kept her going.
At 99 she was still beating us all at Jumbles, scrambling words in the Daily News newspaper and making us laugh about her memories of Dad, and us 8 children. Growing up an only child she was always so proud to have had such a big family. She would not have changed a single thing. Elizabeth cherished her 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart. She was a devout Catholic and was actively involved in Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst, along with her husband, Deacon Charles, where they were both integral parts of the of the parish community. Grateful to God every day, Betty treasured her life and family.
Our Mom was a true role model and helped us understand how as a family, you endure together, you go through together, and help one another during some of the most challenging times in life. For that, we are all incredibly thankful to her. She was a guiding light, a true friend, and a humble, God-fearing woman who taught us to respect one another and live a great life. Her laughter, love and kindness will truly be missed not just by the Tynan Family, but by all who knew and loved her.
To Our Mom - May you rest in peace and meet all our loved ones in Heaven; know that we will miss you every day and we THANK YOU for teaching us how to be good people and live the great way you lived!!
Elizabeth is predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Charles Tynan, Jr. on June 8, 1999, by her sweet grandson, Anthony John Blevis on November 22, 2000, and her son in law, John Anthony Misa on March 8, 2018. She is survived by her loving children, Kevin Tynan (Sue), Karolyn Misa, Kenneth Tynan (Annette), Kathleen Jaben (Steve), Kristine Kearns (Mickey), Karen Blevis (Mike), Kieran Tynan (Elaine) and Keith Tynan. By her dear grandchildren, Analyssa (Chris), Katrina (Leo), Samantha, Alex (Zoe), Adam, Lawren, Mitchell, James (Melissa), Colleen, Brigid, Michael (Samantha), Charles, Meghan, and Carlie. By her cherished 7 great grandchildren and 3 nieces.
