Obituary of Alfred Mamone Capria, Jr.

Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alfred Mamone Capria, Jr. died on Monday, May 27, 2024, in Boynton Beach, Florida after a heart attack, with his family at his side.

Alfred was born on August 9, 1959, on Long Island, New York to Alfred and Josephine Capria. He had two younger siblings, Nick and Joanmarie.

After humble beginnings, Alfred studied Pharmacy at St. John's University, soon becoming a successful retail pharmacist. He married Ana M. Marin in November 1983; their first child, Alana, was born in 1985, after which they moved to New Jersey. Their second child, Alissa, was born in 1988, followed by their son, Anthony, in 1990. Alfred and Ana divorced in 1999.

Alfred adored being a father, dedicating time to attending dance classes and sporting events. He took a week off work every June when his children were in elementary school in order to coach their school's “Olympics”, and always participated in Career Day, where he, an avid pen collector, had personalized pens made for the students.

Alfred was a devoted New York Giants fan, watching every Sunday game with his children. A Catholic, Alfred started a tradition of getting bagels after picking his children up from their Sunday Catechism classes. He also enjoyed sharing "shrimp fest" on game-day with his son (his daughters refused to eat seafood). His children loved teasing him for his "Brooklynese" accent and he was later nicknamed "Fredo."

In 2005, Alfred married Diane Moretto, the love of his life, and he gained two stepdaughters, Janel and Tori. They lived all together, for over 10 years, in Nutley, NJ where they became regulars at the Nutley Diner, Alfred’s favorite restaurant. In Nutley, Alfred and Diane spent their days either poking good-natured fun at each other (how he earned the nickname “Fredo”), enjoying the latest reality TV gameshows, or playing dominoes on Sundays. Alfred also spent his Nutley days teasing his new stepdaughters whenever he had the chance—always trying to make them laugh. He was dedicated to live up to his new role as a stepdad.

Alfred and Diane eventually moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, with their beloved dog, Luca. Always his dream to retire in Florida, Alfred set to work rebuilding their new home himself, based on designs Diane came up with. He was happiest basking in the Florida heat, soaking in the hot tub, walking his dog and talking to neighbors, and of course spending time with his beloved wife. And as was tradition, Alfred continued to call all of his loved ones on Sundays, even if just to say “hello” and “I love you”.

In 2020, Alfred's first grandchild, Athena, was born; his grandson, Leandro, was born in 2021. Referred to as "Pop pop," and “grandpa,” (respectively) Alfred loved spending time with his grandchildren, always wanting to play with them and make them laugh.

Alfred was predeceased by his mother Josephine in February 1991, and his sister Joanmarie in February 2024.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Diane; father, Alfred (Denise); brother, Nick (Diane); his three children, Alana (Frank), Alissa (Rafael), and Anthony (Christine); his two stepchildren, Janel (Jordan), and Tori (Nick); his two grandchildren, Athena and Leandro; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
