Johnson, Henry W., 86, of Lyndhurst, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born in Hackensack and has been a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst. After graduating from Lyndhurst High School, he worked first as a truck driver for Giametta Trucking, then as a part of the Lyndhurst DPW water department for 25 years. All the while, Henry worked part time at his aunt’s deli, Zaulich’s Deli, where he was famous for his homemade rice pudding. Often lines formed to get some of his freshly prepared treat. Henry was an avid softball player, as catcher for the Men’s Lyndhurst League sponsored by Angelo’s Restaurant, all of Lyndhurst and a coach of the Little League baseball representing the Lyndhurst Fire Dept.
Henry is predeceased by his cherished granddaughter, Christina Marie Johnson in 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Carol A. (nee Baccaro), by his loving sons, Richard Johnson & his wife, Francine, and Keith Johnson, by his dear granddaughter, Rachel Rose Johnson & Evan Dunne, and his great granddaughter, Calla Dunne. Henry is also survived by his sister, Josephine Oleske & her husband, Vincent.
Private cremation held under the direction of Nazare Memorial Home Inc. 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. A memorial service will be planned for a future date. You may express condolences to Henry’s family by using our tribute wall.
