Obituary of William J. Feeney
Feeney, William J. 84, died on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was born and raised in Jersey City and after marrying his sweetheart, Patricia Genovese, they lived in Ridgefield Park and has been a resident of Lyndhurst since 1977. William was very proud to be a member of the US Marine Corps (1958-1961). While deployed overseas, he sustained a non-combat injury, and was recommended for medical discharge, in which he refused and carried out his term of service. Sempre Fi. Of recent years, it was revealed that the artillery drills during training caused his hearing loss. Only at this time did Bill agree to hearing aids. He was a truck driver and worked for several local companies then for Yellow Freight of Carlstadt where his career spanned some 40 years before he retired. Yet, he never truly retired. His love of children and education drove him to become a member of the Lyndhurst Board of Education, serving Lyndhurst for a number of years. He would make a point to visit the schools and always took on the concerns of the teachers and students’ families. He was a true advocate for children and their education opportunities. Bill would talk to most anyone and in doing so, made a lot of friends along the way. Even if he knew you shared a different point of view, he always chose to talk to you and be kind to all. While raising their own children, Bill and his wife, Patricia always had a “children are our future vision” and took on the Girls Recreational Soccer program in town, when it was under the threat of disbanding. In addition, he drove the bus for Rutherford's recreational programs. Mostly, Bill was a family man, who loved his wife and children and adored his grandchildren. Bill always said, “I have the best kids” and he meant it. His larger-than-life presence will be missed by many. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years this past April, Patricia A. Feeney (nee Genovese), by his loving children, PeggyAnne Barreira & her husband, Dinis and Bill Feeney & his wife, Lori, by his cherished grandchildren, Kayleen and Elliott, and by his sisters and brothers, Joanne Amador(Don), Jack Feeney (Lynn), Carol O’Keefe (the late Mike O’Keefe) and Danny Feeney (Debbie).
