Castiglia, John J., Sr., 78, died peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  John was born and raised in Jersey City and has been a Lyndhurst resident most of his life, living these past 7 years in Toms River.  John was a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War (1965-1967).  He was a Police Officer with the Lyndhurst Police Department and worked up the ranks, retiring as Police Detective in 1994 just as his son, John Jr., following in his dad's footsteps, began his career of service to others.  John was soft spoken, always caring and kind to all who came to know him. He was the best husband, best father and grandfather, and friend to all.  His smile remains in our hearts.   He is predeceased by his son, Anthony Castiglia in 2018.  John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Phyllis (nee Settembrino), by his loving son, John J. Castiglia, Jr. & his wife, Anne, by his dear granddaughters, Ava and Mia, and by his sister, Camille Planer.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close cousins, especially John Braffa whom John called "brother."

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home Inc. 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 11 AM - 12:45 PM.  Then to Sacred Heart Church where at 1PM a Memorial Mass will be celebrated.  Interment of cremains to follow, Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  You may express condolences to John's family by using our tribute wall.
