Matthew Barbagallo, a lifelong resident of Paramus and Mahwah NJ passed away on November 10, 2024.  Matt was raised in Paramus as the middle child of Sam and Barbara Barbagallo.  He graduated from Paramus High School and afterwards earned his Boiler License.

Matt became a custodian in the Paramus School District and worked tirelessly until retirement in 2023 after 35 years of service.  He was a good friend to have on staff as he had an amazing visual memory and a quick hello and smile for all.  He could be found working at special events and especially loved the athletic events.  

One experience that greatly impacted Matt was the failing health of his mother.  In fact, Matt was a match for his mother and in 2003 donated a kidney to her.  This selfless act enabled his mother Barbara to enjoy 6 additional years of life which included building countless memories with her husband, her children and grandchildren.   With this experience, Matt was introduced to the NJ Sharing Network.  This non-profit organization is dedicated to the responsible recovery of organs and tissue for transplant.

Matt volunteered hundreds of hours for this special cause which impacted him personally.

Matt was a loyal friend and to this day can count so many original Paramus buddies in his close-knit group of friends.  Matt built strong ties, and they carried him through during his times of need.

As many of you know, in 2020 Matt adopted Tucker, a beautiful and playful Golden Doodle.  Tucker brought joy to Matt and Tucker will surely miss Matt’s presence.

Matt was predeceased by his mother Barbara.  Matt is survived by his father Sam (97 years old), brother Jim (wife Beth), sister Lynn Bentzen (husband Tom) and by 4 nieces and nephews and 1 grandnephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Nazare Memorial Home, Inc. on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4 - 8 PM.  All will gather at the funeral home on Friday, November 15 at 9 AM then to Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst where at 10 AM a funeral mass will be offered. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the NJ Sharing Network.
