Obituary of Philomena A. Hanratty

Hanratty, Philomena A. (nee Reilly), 73, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.  Philomena grew up in Dublin, Ireland and moved to the United States with her parents and sister in 1964, first settling in Hackensack.  She lived in Teaneck before moving to Ridgefield Park where she lovingly raised her family.  She was a resident of Lyndhurst since 2014.  Phyllis worked as a physical therapy aide for three years, before making the decision to step away from work in order to raise her children, a role she cherished above all else.  Once her children were older, she continued working this time as a home health aide for 10 years.  A woman of deep compassion and unwavering love, Phyllis dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. Her work in health care was mirrored in her commitment to her family, who she loved with all her heart.  Even in recent years, Philomena’s spirit remained strong. She maintained her remarkable sense of humor and was never short of a story to tell, all while enjoying a proper cup of tea.  Her legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Phyllis was predeceased by her devoted parents, William and Rita (nee Murray) Reilly and her beloved husband of 50 years, Edward M. Hanratty (2024).  She is survived by her loving children, Edward Hanratty, III and his wife, Jaime (nee Reap), Sean Hanratty and his wife, Jenna (nee Topper), Elizabeth Mueller and her husband, Daniel, and Erin Hanratty, by her cherished grandchildren, Liam, Emma, Mackenzie, and Grace, by her dear sister, Breda Reilly, by her sister-in-law, Nancy Hanratty, by her cousin and best friend, Liz O'Doherty and countless cousins in Ireland, by her nieces and nephews, and by her lifelong friends, Connie Connors and John and Doreen Curry.
