Benson, Joseph A., 80, died peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Brooklyn and lived the past 25 years in Lyndhurst. Joseph retired at the age of 72 after working in NYC for 54 years for Home Insurance/Zurich Ins. Companies as a Marine Insurance Adjuster. Joseph served his country proudly in the Army's JAG post on Governer's Island, NY during the Korean War from 1953-1959. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph Benson and Caroline (nee Brower) Benson, his sisters, Doris Benson and Carol Gully and a nephew, John Benson all from Brooklyn, NY. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (nee Kohl) Benson. A devoted father to son Brian and his wife Jessica Benson of Wayne and step-daughter, Andrea Tedino and her fiance', Casimir Kostnicki, Jr. of Clifton. Also survived by nephew Timothy and wife, Charlotte Benson of Olympia, Washington. A cherished uncle and brother-in-law to a very large family who will miss him dearly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 9:30 AM then to St. Michael's Church, Lyndhurst where at 10:30AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Cremation private. Visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph's memory to : Hackensack UMC Foundation, 360 Essex Street-Suite 301, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Enclose a note that is in Joseph Benson's name for the JTCC John Theurer Cancer Center, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
