Osinga, Harry R., 90, died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Harry was a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst where he graduated from Lyndhurst High School in 1953. “Bud,” as many people affectionately called him, was a standout athlete during his high school years, specifically in football. His talents and hard work earned him a place on the University of Miami football team, where he continued to showcase his athleticism and passion for the sport. After college, Harry answered the call to serve his country, proudly joining the United States Marine Corps from 1958 - 1961. Upon his honorable discharge, he began his 35 year career as a metal lather for Local 46 in New York City, retiring in 1997. In 1979, Bud was inducted into the Lyndhurst Athletic Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments as part of its inaugural class. He became one of the “Golden Dozen,” referring to the first twelve members inducted in school history. Bud’s greatest love was for his family: his wife, children, and grandchildren. Harry was predeceased by his devoted parents, Harry and Helen Osinga and by his dear sister, Arlene Bryans. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Janet Osinga (nee Hickey), by their loving children, Michele Orr and her husband, Robert and Thomas Osinga, by his cherished grandchildren, Robert “R.J.” and Ryan, by his brother-in-law, Thomas Hickey and his wife, Laraine, and by his niece, Ruthann Walton.
