De Lellis, James, 92, formerly of Lyndhurst, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Mr. De Lellis was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised and lived in Lyndhurst until 1990, moved to Mahwah where lived for 10 years and has been a resident of Paramus for the past 13 years. He was an Army Veteran who served from 1943 to 1946, during WWII, when he received The Purple Heart Medal. Lobbying the US Congress on behalf of disabled veterans, he helped pass a 30 million dollar bill to that allowed disabled veterans to obtain specially equipped vehicles. In his efforts, James met Pres. Harry S. Truman to obtain support of this bill. He was Owner of Ridge Wine and Liquors of Lyndhurst for 20 years, until 1973. He then became a VA Counselor, where he represented disabled veterans in Newark for over 20 years. He was a member of the DAV- Disabled American Veterans Org, Catholic War Veterans, VFW, Chapter #2973 of Suffern and the Hudson-Bergen Retail Dealers Assoc. James was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Concetta (nee D'Arcangelo) De Lellis in 1988. He is survived by his devoted children, Marie Donoso & her husband, Raul, Carmillo De Lellis & his wife, Rosemary and Teresa De Lellis, by his grandchildren, Anthony, Marie, Michael and Connie Donoso, Jacqueline and Gary Serrao, by his dear great granddaughter, Amaya and by his loving friend, Anne Macina. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 9 AM then to Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst where at 10 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
