Scalese, John A., 77, of Lyndhurst, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Mr. Scalese was born in Lyndhurst and was a life long resident. He was an Army Veteran serving from 1955 until 1957. Appointed to the Lyndhurst Police Department on July 1st 1959, he was promoted through the ranks to Chief on May 2nd 1988. After almost 40 years of service, Chief Scalese retired in 1997. During those years, he attended the F.B.I. National Academy, 99th Session graduating on December 5th 1984, Bergen Community College, William Paterson College, along with many various courses at Bergen County Police & Fire Academy, State Police Academy in Sea Girt, N.J. and International Chief�s Association courses. He was a member of New Jersey State PBA- Silver Life Card Holder, International Association of Chief�s of Police, the New Jersey State Association of Chief�s of Police, Amvets Post #20, of Lyndhurst and served on the following committees, Executive Board, Arson Squad Committee, Awards and Commendations Committee, Crime Stoppers, Death Benefit Committee, Sick and Welfare Committee, Traffic Safety Committee. He received the Wounded Medal Award -1967 Case, American Legion Award Honorable Service -1978 Case, and the Chief�s Achievement Award Bergen County Police Chief�s Association in 1992. John is survived by his three loving children, Jamie Guadagnino & her husband, Robert, Scott Scalese, David Scalese & his wife, Laura, his dear grandson, Keaton John Guadagnino, and his brother, Richard Scalese & his wife, Cathy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9 AM then to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lyndhurst where at 10 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Cremation private. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 PM. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center 1275 York Avenue New York, NY 10065.
