Obituary of Antonio Alonso
Please share a memory of Antonio to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Antonio Alonso passed away quietly and peacefully on July 8th, 2014 while being held by his loving family. Antonio was born on July 27, 1942 in Paizas, Spain. He came to the United States in 1969 and lived in Newark before settling in Lyndhurst, where he lived for 39 years. He was a longshoreman at Port Newark until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of ILA Local 1235 and a member of the Centro Orensano Social Club in Newark. Left behind as a testament to his life are his devoted angel Benigna "Betty" (nee Novoa), his mother-in-law, Manuela Novoa, his adoring daughters, Raquel, Elisa and Sonia, and her husband, Stephen Paczkowski, and Melissa Nevedomsky, whom he loved as much as his own children. His legacy is entrusted to his grandchildren, Sydney and Joshua Winter. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Nicasio, but survived by his brothers, Serafin (Soli) of Pontevedra, Spain and Jose of Barcelona, and a multitude of extended family and friends, both here and in Spain, all of whom he loved without measure. He was a hard worker, an excellent provider, a historian, an artist, a gardener, a teacher, an animal lover, a planner of tea parties and an expert sword fighter. He was braver than he believed, stronger than he seemed, smarter than he thought, and loved more than he'll ever know. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 9:30AM then to St. Michael's Church, Lydhurst where at 10:30AM a Funeral Mass will be offered.
