Mandese, Joseph C., 97, of Lyndhurst died on Friday, March 18, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Mandese was born in Tampa, FL, moved to New York in 1930, lived in Union City for 27 years and has been a resident of Lyndhurst for the past 39 years. Joseph was a WWII Army Veteran where he was captured during the Tunisian Invasion of North Africa in 1942; He was held prisoner, escaped captivity and reunited with American troops after 665 days in 1944. He was a Film Processor for the Army Pictorial Center, in Queens, NY for 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of VFW Post#3549 and American Legion Post#139, both of Lyndhurst. Joe is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 70 years, Ann (nee Marino) Mandese, by his loving children, Anthony Mandese & his wife, Sandra, Rose Ann Sverapa & her husband, Joseph, Josephine Aiello and Bernadette Cannon & her husband, Robert, by his dear eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchilden and by his siter, Connie Parlapiano. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Monday, March 21, 2016 with visiting 8:30- 10:15AM and then to Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst where at 10:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Interment Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph's memory to: VFW Post#3549, 527 Valley Brook Ave., Lyndhurst NJ 07071 or to American Legion Post#139, 217 Webster Ave., Lyndhurst NJ 07071
