Obituary of Reverend John F. Connor

The Reverend John F. Connor, 78, of Bayville, died on Monday, November 28, 2016. Father Connor was born in the Bronx, NY, raised in Yonkers, before moving to Rutherford, NJ where he lived with his family until 1958 when he entered the Immaculate Conception Seminary (Darlington) of Mahwah, NJ. On May 23, 1964, he was ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Father began his ministry as Parochial Vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Maplewood for 7 years until 1971. He was appointed as Chaplain for the Rutgers Newman Center in addition to Ramapo College in the Office of Campus Ministry, where he served until 1982. While in residence at Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst, Father was a dedicated member and staff judge of the Metropolitan Tribunal, ministering to the faithful of Archdiocese of Newark from 1982 until his retirement in 2009. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Pastor of St. Cecelia Church, Kearny and later assisted at St. Anthony's Church, Newark and St. Luke's Church, HoHoKus. Selflessly, he served the Archdiocese of Newark and in 2014, Father John F. Connor celebrated his Jubilee. He was in residence at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church from 2009 until moving to Bayville in 2012. Father John is predeceased by his parents, John R. and Lillian A (nee McKenna) Connor and his brother, William G. Connor. He is survived by his brothers, Robert and Richard Connor. by his sister-in-law, Carole Connor, his nephew, Brian Connor and niece, Kristin Connor Bailey. Family and friends will be received Friday, December 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 654 Summer Avenue, Newark from 3-7 PM with a 7:30PM Prayer Service. Saturday visiting from 9AM - 10AM followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements by Nazare Memorial Home,. Inc., Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
