Bernard Jr., William J., 61, of Lyndhurst, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Mr. Bernard was born in Manhattan, NY and has been a resident of Lyndhurst for over 40 years. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in New York City and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Felician College. William was an Air Force Veteran, who proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era. He was currently employed with the New York City Administration for Children's Services. He was an active member of the Lyndhurst American Legion Post 139. William was predeceased by his parents, the late William J. Sr. and Marie "Shirley" Bernard. He is survived by his loving children, Jhonna DeMarcky and her husband Stephen, Dawn Marie Axness and her husband Chris, Catherine Bernard and her husband Robert Sexton, and William J. Bernard III, by his cherished grandchildren, Christian, Emma, Alexa, Stephen, Aidan, Declan, and Harlow, by his siblings Terrence J. and Geraldine Bernard, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10 AM then to St. Michael's Church, Lyndhurst where at 11 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Cremation will be private. Visiting hours Friday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in William's memory to the Lyndhurst American Legion Post 139, 217 Webster Avenue, P.O. Box 382, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071.
