Obituary of Louis C. D'Alessandro

Louis Charles D�Alessandro passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Hackensack University Medical Center at the age of 85. Lou was born in Jersey City and was a lifelong resident until moving to Tobyhanna, PA, 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Columbia University and was a US Navy veteran of WW II. Early on in his working career, Lou was employed as a United States Treasury agent. He later worked for the City of Jersey City and was appointed chief construction official for the city, overseeing such projects as the building of Newport Mall. During this time Lou also maintained the operation of The D'Alessandro Insurance Agency, a longtime family owned business. Upon his retirement from Jersey City, he carried the position of construction official to both Union City and Weehawken. Next to his family, Lou�s love of golf was well known. He played most every course in NJ and PA and played daily while he was able after his retirement. When his health prevented him from playing, you could find him watching a game on television with the same enthusiasm. Lou is survived by his wife of 60 years Helen (nee Rotondaro) D�Alessandro. His is the devoted father of Margaret Tiffner and husband Howard, Ann Louise Grauso and husband Vincent and loving grandfather of Jeffrey Tiffner and wife Erin. Lou is predeceased by two sisters, Diana Gentile and Esther LoRe and a brother Vincent. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Nazare Memorial Home, 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071, on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM. Family and friends are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 A.M, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Church at 11 A.M.. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ
