Dave meant so much to so many. From those he mentored as a Boy Scout leader with Troop 1 in Carlstadt, to those he helped lead as Captain of the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps. When I first joined the Corps, Dave was there to help guide me. He was like a father figure to all the younger members. He would help us navigate through and understand what the older members where trying to tell us. Like it or not, he was the principal of the K-Crew. Seeing him in cardiac rehab years after he left the corps trying to recover from my own health issues was inspiring. It seemed we where able to keep each other going when we where there together. Dave was a great man that will be missed.
My heart felt condolences go out to Barbara, his lovely wife, his some Tim and the rest of the family.

Dave and I were partners riding Monday nights for the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Dave was one of the nicest people and would do anything for you. His compassion for our patients, even on sometimes heartbreaking calls, made us a good team. Dave was the ultimate gentleman, always treated everyone respectfully, and was very protective of me as his crew member when we were on calls. Barbara, Tim, and Holly, you all were his life and he spoke so proudly of you. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP my friend.

I’ve have known Dave back when his son Tim started riding as a Youth Squad member and then later on when he became a member himself. I’m sure can speak for the old timers that I consider to be apart of he will be solely missed by all that he had served with him. I myself had the honor to ride with him for a brief time on Tuesday night with Dave, Roman and my dad. I remember one night I was either covering for someone or it was my regular schedule. We got dispatched for a mutual aid call to North Bergen for multiple structure fires as always it was a pleasure to work with him in the field. RIP Dave you will be missed.

I knew Dave Burns as "CAP". He is still a very much an integral part of the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps (CVAC) through the long career of leadership as an EMT and captain of the corps for many years. While he will have his name engraved on a brass plaque in the building, we will not need that to remember him . We will remember the years of dedication to the members of the organization and the residents of Carlstadt under his care.
I first met Dave with his son Tim through Carlstadt's Boy Scout Troop 1 in the late 80s when they were on the arduous and successful journey of becoming an Eagle Scout together. Anyone who has become an Eagle scout can attest to the dedication, hard work, persistence and love that comes from Mom and Dad while on the path to this stellar top 1% achievement. Dave being there came naturally as guide, mentor, lend a hand and do whatever was needed for all the boys. He camped, canoed, hiked, cooked and cleaned alongside everyone.
Through mutual friends, he joined the CVAC to "help others" and he stuck with it well past retirement age. While his driving record with the rig won him several "engineer awards" at the yearly dinners, he was a beloved and dedicated EMS professional with a soft respectful touch and has left a mark that newer members can aspire to.
Our condolences to Dave's wife Barbara and his children Tim and Holly and their families. Dave will be missed, but never forgotten.

Back in October of 2007 when I first joined the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps , I was placed on the Tuesday night crew with Dave . Dave showed me the In and out ‘s of the Corp and watched over me on all calls. Dave was always there to lend a hand and help in any way he could. It was a pleasure riding the ambulance with Dave every week. He was one of the most generous people I have known . And no matter what type of call we were on he made sure I was ok .
Rest In Peace . My condolences to his family.

Dave you were my first partner on Tuesday night, along with Roman we had some great times, some tuff times also. You always had a smile and that made it easier to get through any type of call we were on! You were my driving instructor and you would be proud of all the engineers awards I got. I even may have beaten your number! You were absolutely one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the privilege to know. To your wife Barbara and all of your family I’m praying for them and you also my Friend. My wife Barbara and myself are thinking of you! Matt Kronyak and Barbara

It was my pleasure to serve on the Carlstadt Ambulance Corps with Dave and son Tim. Dave was always professional and brought a calmness to every situation that arose, especially during the years that Dave served as Captain of the Corps. Dave had the unique ability to span all age groups on the Corps and was well liked and respected by all members. I will always remember the good times I had with Dave throughout his years on the Corps, Whether it was the many barbecue's at his house, Corps events or even social outings. Dave was always very reliable and dependable to be at all Corps functions. When I think of Dave, I think of a guy that would always greet you with a smile, a friendly word and a handshake. Dave Burns - A True Gentlemen and Family Man. "Rest In Peace My Friend, Until We Meet Again" Mrs Burns, Tim, Holly and Family, From the bottom of my heart, I extend to you my Deepest Condolences. .

Uncle Dave was a second father to me. He was so compassionate, loving, funny, and someone that was always there for us. He loved his family with everything that he had. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for Holly and I when we were growing up and I will miss him greatly.
